Let’s face it, most of us don’t have much time to spend in the kitchen these days. There’s always something to do, places to go, and people to see, and that doesn’t include the time you spend at work. Takeout or going to a restaurant solves the problem nicely, right? As a short term solution it does, but as a long term solution it can be cutting off your nose despite your face. If you could copycat recipes from restaurants and cook them at home it would save you money and much more while not missing out on the good things in life.
Going to restaurants and getting takeout is expensive, not only on your hip pocket but also on your waistline. The taste is great, but you don’t control what goes into the food. Really, you have no idea what you’re eating. Some restaurants will give you a breakdown of the nutritional value of what you are eating, but it’s not the same as doing it yourself. The problem is that often the meals taste better, and sometimes you just have a craving for restaurant food. It’s more than the convenience, it’s the whole package.
Have you ever sat at home with the flyers for three different restaurants in your hands thinking about what you want to eat and can’t decide? In fact it would be great to go to each place and pick out the dishes you want from each of them. It’s just out of the question. So you compromise. It’s better than nothing, after all.
What if you could cook them at home? It is possible to do it, and at a fraction of the cost of eating out. There is the time factor, though. Why bother cooking at home if it takes more time? The thing is, that it most probably doesn’t take more time. The perception is that it does, but if you were to look, really look at how much time it takes to cook ribs, for example, or go to a restaurant to eat ribs you’d be surprised. Sure, it depends on the recipe, but ribs don’t take that long to cook and you don’t really spend much of that time in the kitchen. If you are at home you get to catch up on other things, as well, which is an added bonus.
If what you want is the taste of restaurant food you can get it at home. There are several cookbooks on the market at present that have cloned the signature dishes of chain restaurants. In fact, they’ve managed to do it with ingredients available at the supermarket, and they taste like the real deal, so if you have a craving of dishes from three different restaurants, the chances are you can do it at home. “America’s Most Wanted Recipes,” is one example of what’s available on the market, and is the best of the two that I’ve tried. The Ron Douglas has written a cookbook that’s easy to read with clear instructions on how to cook the meals, and the four or five recipes I’ve tried have tasted just like the originals. The other is “Copy Cat Cookbook” which is not quite as good but worth the look. So it is possible to do, and the books are out there if you wish to try them.
If you want to save money and time, consider cooking copycat recipes your favourite restaurant at home. That way you control the ingredients, and your budget at the same time without compromising on taste.
